Restaurant 1906

Restaurant 1906 takes its name from the year Hotel Triglav and the Bohinj railway line opened, and for over a century it has been the heart of this boutique hotel above the lake. Its two great assets are the kitchen and the view — from the elegant dining room with white-clothed tables, the windows look straight onto the lake, the island church and the surrounding hills.

The kitchen is led by chef Aleš Fende, whose motto is “good is not good enough — it must be excellent”: plates bring reinterpretations of Slovenian classics built on seasonal ingredients from trusted local producers, often finished with French sauces and jus. The quality is confirmed by the Michelin Guide, which listed the restaurant from 2022 to 2025.

Today the concept is tied to the hotel: outstanding breakfasts for guests, a seasonal brunch, and lunches and dinners for pre-booked groups — so arrange an independent visit with the hotel in advance. That also makes 1906 a superb choice for celebrations and weddings, with the view you’ll recognise instantly from the photo.
