Kavarna Park

Kavarna Park is the birthplace of the Bled cream cake. It was created in 1953 in the Hotel Park patisserie by head pastry chef Ištvan Lukačević, and more than 15 million have been baked to the original recipe since. Crisp puff pastry, velvety vanilla custard, light whipped cream and icing sugar — in Bled the kremšnita is a ritual, not a dessert, and here it comes with the official title of »original Bled cream cake«.

The café and its spacious terrace stand right on the lake promenade, so the cake comes with the finest possible setting: a view of the lake, the castle on its rock and St Martin’s Church. Besides the famous slice there are gibanica, cakes, homemade ice cream and good coffee; breakfast guests appreciate the morning calm before the promenade fills up.

To be honest: opinions on the service are mixed and the overall TripAdvisor score is accordingly moderate — but for the original cream cake with this view, you come anyway. The best time is mid-morning or at sunset, when the crowds thin out.
