About the trail

Trail description

Viševnik (2,050 m) is Slovenia’s most popular two-thousander for good reason: from Rudno polje on the Pokljuka plateau you reach the summit in 1.5–2 hours with no climbing or exposure, and the reward is a front-row view of Triglav plus a sea of peaks from the Karavanke to the Bohinj mountains.

The trail is broad and well marked: first through Pokljuka’s spruce forest, past a hunting lodge at Jezerca, then up grassy slopes to the ridge. The final stretch is a little steeper but perfectly safe for hiking beginners with basic fitness.

In summer, combine the ascent with a descent past the Lipanca mountain hut for a loop; in winter Viševnik is the country’s favourite ski-touring goal. The trailhead is a half-hour drive from Bled up the Pokljuka road.

Safety information

  • The summit is above the treeline — avoid the ridge in storms.
  • In winter the slopes are avalanche-prone; gear and skills required.
  • Carry water; there are no springs on the trail.
