About the trail

Trail description

The Triglav Lakes Valley — locals call it Sedmera jezera, the Seven Lakes — is Slovenia’s most beautiful alpine valley: a chain of glacial lakes from Črno jezero to the Lake below Vršac, cradled between rock summits in the heart of Triglav National Park. Each lake has its own character; the largest, Ledvička, is the postcard photographers travel across the world for.

Trails into the Valley — Three Classics

From Planina Blato — Easiest and Most Popular

From the Blato car park (1,088 m) over the Pri Jezeru and Dedno polje pastures to the Triglav Lakes hut in 2.5–3 hours of moderate climbing. The fastest way into the heart of the valley — ideal for a day visit or a first night in the high mountains.

Over Komarča from Savica — Steep and Spectacular

From the Savica waterfall (~650 m) the trail zig-zags up the 500 m Komarča wall on cables to Black Lake and on to the hut (~3 h). Protected but exposed in places — not for vertigo sufferers, and best avoided for descent in the wet.

The Valley Traverse to Prehodavci — the Royal Stage

From the hut up past the Green and Brown lakes to the Zasavska hut on Prehodavci (2,063 m, ~2 h) — the most beautiful stretch of the valley. From there: descend to Trenta, climb Kanjavec, or continue over Hribarice towards Triglav — the Seven Lakes are the classic first stage of a two-day Triglav ascent.

Parking and Access

A 7 km forest road climbs from Stara Fužina to Planina Blato with a toll of ~€20 (parking included; come early — the car park sits ~1 km below the pasture). At Savica there is a paid car park in the Bohinj system. Both trailheads are ~40 minutes’ drive from Bled.

Park Rules, Gear and Season

You are in the core of Triglav National Park: swimming in the lakes is strictly forbidden (fragile ecosystem), as are camping and drones; dogs on a lead. The season runs June to early October; snowfields linger outside it. Mountain boots and layers are essential, and afternoon storms are the reason to start early. Current weather: Bled Live.

Safety information

  • Swimming in the lakes, camping and drones FORBIDDEN (national park).
  • Komarča: protected but exposed — not in the wet.
  • Afternoon storms — start early; season Jun–Oct.
