Vintgar Gorge: Tickets, Parking, Opening Hours & Tips for 2026
Vintgar Gorge is the most spectacular natural attraction near Lake Bled — 1.6 kilometres of wooden boardwalks pinned to vertical cliffs above the emerald Radovna river. It’s also one of Slovenia’s busiest sights, so a little planning makes the difference between a magical morning and an hour in a queue. Here’s the complete, up-to-date guide.
Vintgar Gorge tickets and prices for 2026
Vintgar now uses an all-in-one ticket: adults pay €15 and children up to 15 pay €5 (pets €3). The price bundles gorge entry, the free central car park with the “Green Access” shuttle and the Vintgaring experience; guided tours cost €25. Entry works with timed slots and a cap of 245 visitors in the gorge at once, and the popular morning slots sell out — buy tickets online in advance to guarantee entry and skip the queue.
Vintgar Gorge parking
This is the part that changed most in recent seasons, so ignore older blogs: there is no visitor parking at the gorge entrance any more. Instead, your all-in-one ticket already covers it — you park at the signposted Vintgar LIP car park on the approach road, and a free e-shuttle (included in the ticket) runs you to the entrance. The same shuttle also picks up at Bled bus station, so you can visit the gorge without a car at all.
Two useful exceptions and tips: motorbikes may still park right at the entrance; and if you’re combining the gorge with a day in town, it can be simpler to leave the car at one of the lots in Bled — our Lake Bled parking guide lists every option with prices — and ride the shuttle from the bus station.
Vintgar Gorge opening hours
The gorge is open from April to late October. Hours follow the season: April–May 9 am–4 pm, June–early July 8 am–5 pm, high summer (6 July–30 August) 8 am–6 pm, then 8 am–4 pm and from late September 9 am–3 pm. It is closed in winter — the boardwalks become dangerous with ice and the gorge undergoes yearly maintenance.
How to get from Bled to Vintgar Gorge
The entrance at Podhom village is four kilometres from Bled — but note: you can no longer drive to the entrance. Drivers park free at the central Vintgar LIP car park and ride the e-shuttle included in the ticket; the shuttle also runs from Bled bus station. (One exception: motorbikes may still park right at the entrance.) Alternatively it’s a 50-minute flat walk or a pleasant 15-minute cycle (see our bike rental).
What to expect on the trail
The walk through the gorge is one-way: you enter at Podhom and exit at the Šum waterfall, Slovenia’s highest river waterfall. Despite the dramatic scenery, the boardwalk trail is flat and easy — suitable for anyone who can walk unaided (strollers and wheelchairs unfortunately can’t manage the boardwalks). Safety helmets are mandatory in the gorge — you receive one at the visitor centre, included in the ticket. How to beat the crowds
This is the single most important tip: arrive before 9 am or after 4 pm. Between 10 am and 3 pm in summer, tour buses arrive and the boardwalks fill shoulder to shoulder. At 8 am you’ll share the gorge with a handful of photographers; the low morning light through the mist above the Radovna is when Vintgar is at its most magical.
Practical tips
Wear shoes with grip — the boardwalks are slippery when wet. Bring a light jacket even in summer; the gorge stays several degrees cooler than Bled. The river is glacial and swimming is prohibited (and genuinely freezing). Drones require advance permission from the operator. Is Vintgar Gorge worth it?
Absolutely. Even with the crowds, walking metres above a rushing emerald river between 250-metre cliffs is an experience that no photo does justice.
