Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom

The Valvasor hut below Stol (1,181 m) is the favourite family hut above Žirovnica: its sun terrace faces the Julian Alps and Triglav head-on, and in winter the trail becomes one of the best sledding runs around. The hut is also the main gateway for climbing Mt Stol, the highest peak of the Karavanke.

The classic trail runs from the Završnica valley: 1.5 hours of moderate forest climbing (+480 m). The hut is open year round (often closed on Mondays), and the home cooking alone justifies the walk — many come just for the štruklji. A loop back leads over the Zabreška pasture.
