Planina Zajamniki (1,280 m) on the southern rim of the Pokljuka plateau is Slovenia’s most photographed alpine pasture: a string of wooden herders’ huts lined along a grassy ridge with Triglav behind them. The easiest approach is from Rudno polje (1,347 m) — forest tracks with barely any climbing bring you over in 45–60 minutes; the longer classic climbs from Srednja vas in Bohinj (~2 h).
The huts are private — there is no mountain-hut catering, so bring your own snacks and respect the locals’ privacy. Light is best in early morning and late afternoon; summer weekends get busy, so come early. In winter Zajamniki is a favourite snowshoe and sledding spot.
