About the trail

Trail description

Golica (1,835 m) in the Karavanke above Jesenice is Slovenia’s most famous “May mountain”: in late May its slopes turn white with fields of wild daffodils — thousands of white stars that draw crowds of pilgrims every year. From the border ridge the view drops deep into Austria and back across the valley to the Julian Alps and Triglav.

All trails start in the village of Planina pod Golico: the shortcut past the Savske jame mines reaches the much-loved Golica hut (1,582 m) in a good hour (the gentler marked trail takes 1.5 h), and the grassy ridge to the summit adds ~45 minutes. The hut runs a webcam — check the bloom before a May visit. Daffodil lovers should also look at Begunjščica, its “sister” across the valley.

Safety information

  • Marked, moderately demanding (~880 m to the summit).
  • Very busy during the bloom — start before 8 am.
  • Hut daily in summer, weekends otherwise.
