About the trail

Trail description

Dobrča (Veliki vrh, 1,634 m) is a lone outpost of the Karavanke between Begunje and Tržič — and thanks to its position in front of the main ridge, one of the finest viewpoints over Gorenjska: Bled, Radovljica and the Sava plain below, the Julian Alps and Triglav across the valley. The Dobrča hut (1,478 m) is famous for its sun terrace.

The most popular trail starts in Slatna near Begunje: about 2 hours of marked forest climbing to the hut, then another good half hour along the ridge to the summit. Its southern aspect keeps Dobrča snow-free early in spring and late into autumn, and in good conditions it is a favourite winter hike too.

Safety information

  • Marked, moderately demanding (~850 m to the summit).
  • Hut open at weekends, more often in summer.
  • Winter by conditions — icy patches.
