Golf in Bled: Playing Royal Bled, Slovenia’s Championship Course

Five minutes from the lake, Royal Bled is Slovenia’s oldest and most celebrated golf club — founded in 1937 for the Yugoslav royal court, rebuilt into a modern championship venue, and routinely ranked among the most beautiful parkland courses in this part of Europe. Fairways run between ancient oaks with the Karavanke ridge stacked along the horizon.

The Courses: King’s and Lake’s

There are two courses. The 18-hole King’s Course (1937) is the flagship — a genuine championship layout with quick, undulating greens. The 9-hole Lake’s Course (1993) is friendlier and ideal for a relaxed afternoon round or for golfers still building a handicap. A driving range and practice areas sit by the clubhouse.

Green Fees & Requirements

  • King’s Course: 280 € in peak season (15 May–30 Sep), 220 € in the shoulder months (mid-Mar–mid-May and Oct–Nov); youth up to 25 play for 150 €.
  • Lake’s Course: 70 € peak / 55 € shoulder; youth 35 €.
  • A handicap certificate is required for the King’s Course (recommended H.I.: men 28.0, ladies 36.0), and a dress code applies.

The club closes for winter and reopens at the beginning of April — check current rates and tee times on the official site before you travel.

Worth the Price Tag?

The King’s Course green fee is serious money, but this is the one course in Slovenia golfers plan trips around: immaculate conditioning, alpine scenery and far fewer players than comparable courses in Austria or Italy. If you just want a taste, the Lake’s nine at 70 € is one of the region’s better-value rounds.

Around Your Round

The course lies toward Ribno, between Bled and Radovljica’s medieval old town — perfect for lunch after eighteen holes, or pick from our Bled restaurant guide. Non-golfing companions have a full menu of lake-side alternatives, from a boat on the lake to the viewpoint hikes; a round fits neatly into a three-day Bled itinerary.
