X-WATERS Slovenia turns Lake Bled into an international open-water arena for one September weekend: swimmers from many countries race over distances from 500 metres to the royal 10 kilometres, with a 2×500 m relay and X-KIDS races over 50 and 200 m — so the start line mixes recreational swimmers, children and marathon racers.

The backdrop sells the event by itself: swimming beneath the castle rock with the island a stroke away. Saturday is for registration and the briefing, Sunday for racing — from the morning mile to afternoon sprints and the awards. For spectators everything is free and easy to follow, with starts and finishes right on the lakeshore.

If you’re taking part as a swimmer, book accommodation early — September weekends in Bled are among the busiest. Entries and programme on the official site.
