About the trail

Trail description

Vintgar Gorge is one of Slovenia’s greatest natural spectacles. Between Hom and Boršt, the Radovna river has carved a gorge 1.6 kilometres long and up to 250 metres deep, threaded since 1893 by a trail of wooden boardwalks and galleries pinned to the vertical walls.

Despite the dramatic setting, the walk is easy and suitable for all generations. The emerald Radovna foams through rapids and pools beneath you, and the trail ends at the 13-metre Šum waterfall, Slovenia’s highest river waterfall. The return runs as a loop along a shaded forest path via St Catherine’s with lovely views of Bled — about four kilometres in total.

The gorge is open from April to late October; adult tickets cost €10. The entrance is four kilometres from Bled — walkable, cyclable or a short drive to the Podhom car park.

Safety information

  • Boardwalks are slippery when wet; walk carefully.
  • The trail is one-way (entry Podhom, exit at Šum waterfall); return via the marked forest path.
  • The gorge is closed in winter.
  • A safety helmet is mandatory in the gorge — you get one at the entrance, included in the ticket.

Trailhead parking

  • There is NO parking at the gorge entrance — park free at the central Vintgar LIP car park and take the e-shuttle (included in the ticket), which also runs from Bled bus station.
  • Exception: motorbikes may still park right at the gorge entrance.
  • In summer, book the earliest slot — crowds are real.
