A rock tooth above the Sava Bohinjka valley (1,128 m): an uncrowded viewpoint above Bohinjska Bela with an aragonite-crystal cave at its foot.
Babji zob — the “Hag’s Tooth” — is an unmistakable rock horn jutting like a giant tooth from the forested slope high above the Sava Bohinjka valley. You see it from the Bohinj railway, from the road to Bohinj and from the paths around Bled, yet few ever climb it. That makes it the perfect goal for a day away from the Bled crowds: you will often have the summit to yourself, with the Sava Bohinjka valley, the villages below the Jelovica plateau and the Julian ridges spread out beneath you.
The marked trail starts in Bohinjska Bela and climbs forest paths and skid tracks southeast above the village; in a good ninety minutes to two hours of moderate walking you gain just over 600 vertical metres. The final section onto the rocky head is steeper and needs care when wet, and from the top the view runs from the Bohinj mountains to the Karavanke. Return the same way; allow 3–4 hours in total.
The mountain’s special secret is the cave below Babji zob on its southern foot — a karst cave famed for rare aragonite crystals; Bled cavers run occasional guided visits, and independent entry is not possible. The name? Folk imagination saw an old hag’s tooth in the rock — one look from the valley explains why.
