Ratitovec is one of Slovenia’s best-loved hiking ridges — grassy summits above Železniki where the Julian Alps meet the Škofja Loka hills, crowned by Gladki vrh (1,667 m), Altemaver (1,678 m) and the famous Krekova hut just below the top. The reward is a 360° panorama from Triglav and the Bohinj mountains to a sea of fog over the Ljubljana basin on clear mornings.
The most popular trailhead is the hamlet of Prtovč (1,011 m): a marked trail via Povden reaches Gladki vrh in 1 h 45 min (~650 m of ascent), with a circular descent via Razor (3–3.5 h total). The longer scenic classic follows the ridge from Soriška Planina (~3 h one way). Both trailheads are about a 40-minute drive from Bled.
Krekova koča (1,642 m), open since 1925 and repeatedly voted among Slovenia’s most beautiful mountain huts, serves daily in summer and at weekends otherwise. Check conditions before you go: the hut runs a popular webcam, and the regional weather picture is on our Bled Live page. In winter the ridge is magical on snowshoes or touring skis — in stable conditions only.
