Španov Vrh Ski Area

⚠️ Current status: due to lack of snow, the Španov Vrh ski area has not operated in recent years (last in early 2023). The chairlift holds all permits and can restart with sufficient natural snow, and in spring it occasionally runs for the daffodil bloom. Check with the operator before visiting.

Španov Vrh above Planina pod Golico is the kind of ski area that barely exists anymore: one chairlift, about two kilometres of slopes and zero crowds. It sits on the southern slopes of the Karavanke above Jesenice, with views across the valley to the Julian Alps.

Slopes and difficulty: the core of the skiing is a lively red run with a gentler lower section — terrain that delights intermediate and good skiers, while complete beginners are better served by Kranjska Gora or Zatrnik. That’s exactly why the vibe here is relaxed and sporty, with no lift queues.

For families: suitable for families whose kids already ski independently; for first turns, look elsewhere. The homely hut by the base station handles tea and sausages after the runs.

The area lives on natural snow and the dedication of local volunteers — it operates mainly on weekends and holidays when conditions allow, so always check operation before visiting. Španov Vrh is 25 minutes from Bled; in spring, combine a visit with the famous daffodil meadows below Golica.
