About the experience

Description

No view of Bled is calmer than the one from a balloon basket at sunrise: the lake with its island, the castle on its rock, Gorenjska villages and the Julian Alps turn slowly beneath you while the balloon drifts silently with the wind. Flights over Bled are run by Balonarski center Barje (Ballooning Bled), Slovenia’s most experienced balloon operator.

You meet early in the morning at Hotel Jelovica by the bus station, help (if you like) with inflating the balloon, then comes roughly an hour of flying — the wind sets the course, usually toward Lesce, Radovljica or Brezje. After landing follows the traditional balloonist’s baptism with sparkling wine and the granting of your baron or baroness title, capped with an original Bled cream cake. The whole experience takes 3.5 to 4 hours.

Prices: the classic morning flight over the Bled surroundings from ~€145 per person, the premium flight directly above Lake Bled ~€275. Flights run year-round in morning slots; in rain or strong wind your flight is moved to a new date. Book a few days ahead, more in summer.
