The queen of Slovenian canyons near Bovec: jumps into emerald pools, natural slides and rope descents past the Katedrala (20 m) and Parabola (48 m) waterfalls.
The Fratarica gorge above Log pod Mangartom is considered the queen of Slovenian canyoning: the stream has carved a trench dozens of metres deep and in places only a few metres wide into the limestone, and you conquer it by jumping into crystal-clear pools, sliding down natural toboggans and abseiling on ropes. The highlights are two mighty waterfalls — Katedrala (20 m) and Parabola (48 m); ropes are mandatory on three waterfalls, elsewhere you choose between jumps and walk-arounds.
The experience lasts about 4 hours, roughly 3 of them inside the canyon; the difficulty is intermediate, with swimming ability and basic hiking fitness required. The price includes full equipment (wetsuit, helmet, harness), licensed guides and a briefing; you only need swimwear, a towel and sports shoes that can get wet.
Fratarica lies in the Koritnica valley near Bovec, a good ninety-minute drive from Bled over the Vršič pass — the canyoning pairs beautifully with a Soča valley day trip. The season runs from mid-March to the end of October; you receive the exact Bovec meeting point with your booking confirmation.
